9 Αυγ 2019 · MLA in-text citations for poems. When quoting a poem, the poet’s last name must be clearly stated so that the reader can locate the source in the Works Cited list. If you cite more than one poem by the same author, you also need to mention the title of the poem you are quoting.
POETRY & SONGS. In MLA, when you quote from a poem/song, there are 2 main differences: umbers not page numbers (be aware that some Professors may prefer page numbers instead of line numbers). In the first parenthetical citation, us. the word “line” or “lines” to indicate that you are using line num.
In your first parenthetical citation, you want to make clear which Bible you're using (and underline or italicize the title), as each version varies in its translation, followed by book (do not italicize or underline), chapter, and verse.

Titles in quotation marks: Use quotation marks for titles of works published within a larger work: titles of essays, poems, an article in a journal, a short story in a collection, a chapter in a book, a webpage on a larger website, etc.
