3 Σεπ 2022 · You may need this surgery if your tear duct has become blocked, which can occur due to infection or inflammation of the eye. The procedure can be performed externally through an incision in the skin and is typically effective at creating a new duct within 3 months.
What to expect after the operation. A dressing might be applied on the wound/eye for 24 hours. Make sure the wound is kept clean and dry; if necessary clean it gently using cooled, boiled water and clean gauze or tissues. You may be prescribed eye drops, a nasal spray and an ointment, which you should use as directed.
The stent is normally removed about six weeks after the operation in a simple out-patient procedure which involves cutting the loop of the stent in the inner corner of the eye and retrieving the stent from inside the nose after spraying the nose with local anaesthetic.
If you have swelling or discomfort around your nasal bridge (the bridge of your nose) and eyelids, cold compresses may help. Place a cold compress on the bridge of your nose for the first 72 hours (3 days) after surgery.
