10 Φεβ 2019 · The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF).
The Block 70/72 features advanced avionics, a proven Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, a modernized cockpit with new safety features, advanced weapons, conformal fuel tanks, an improved performance engine, and an industry-leading extended structural service life of 12,000 hours.
The F-16 has evolved into an all-weather fighter- bomber. It is a classic fighter ..single pilot, single engine. But it is far from simple. State-of-the-art avionics and computer software enable the F-16 to carry most of the air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions in the Unites States arsenal.
The request for proposals issued on 6 January 1972 called for a 20,000-pound (9,100 kg) class air-to-air day fighter with a good turn rate, acceleration, and range, and optimized for combat at speeds of Mach 0.6–1.6 and altitudes of 30,000–40,000 feet (9,100–12,000 m).
The F-16 Fighting Falcon rates as one of the world’s premier military aircraft. The lightweight, single-engine, supersonic, and highly maneuverable fighter, with its cropped-delta planform, became a multirole workhorse of the US Air Force in the 1980s and of some two dozen other air arms since.
