Complaint: In the days following the creation of my business profile on Yelp, I received multiple phone calls regarding the platform and advertising. Key parts of one of these calls included the sales agent:
Yelp’s Consumer Alerts program warns people when we find evidence of extreme attempts to manipulate a business’s ratings and reviews.
20 Σεπ 2023 · Suspicious Review Activity Alerts warn that we’ve detected a large number of positive reviews coming from a single IP address, or reviews from users who may be connected to a group that coordinates incentivized reviews.
21 Σεπ 2023 · The FTC noted that Yelp reported 950 suspicious posts, users, or groups facilitating fake reviews in 2021 alone. Of course, the fake review problem goes beyond Yelp.
Yelp’s policies strictly prohibit compensated and incentivized reviews as they can mislead consumers. To help inform people’s spending decisions, we issue Consumer Alerts that appear over a business’s reviews to warn people when we discover suspicious review activity.
10 Μαρ 2020 · In 2019, we issued more than 1,300 Consumer Alerts, which run the gamut from identifying attempts to purchase reviews, to informing consumers about businesses that may be getting attention more for their high profile in the media than their customer service.
