Little surprise, then, that among the pioneering video artists of the 1970s and 1980s were influential female figures who expanded the early possibilities of the field. One of those artists was Shigeko Kubota (1937-2015), who was a key figure in the Fluxus scene.

From 1972 to 1980 the Women’s Video Festival took place at The Kitchen in New York highlighting video artists who were still under-represented such as the Japanese artist Shigeko Kubota (1937-2015), a member of the Fluxus group.
