Definition. A pay plan is a two-digit alphabetical code used to identify Federal civilian pay systems. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) approves pay plan codes for agency use. OPM-approved pay plan codes are found Part A of the Guide to Data Standards.

This is the current-year General Schedule (GS) Pay Scale, effective for 2024. This table shows the base pay amounts for all General Schedule employees based on the 2024 GS Pay Scale, as published by the Office of Personnel Management.
It is used to pay over 1.5 million federal works across all 13 federal departments and numerous independent agencies. The GS schedule applies to a wide range of personnel. Employees directly out of high school with no experience can start at GS Grade 1 or 2.
