Visit https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/ and click on "Sign Up Now". Fill out the required information. In the Platform drop-down menu, select Windows PC. Complete the Captcha module and click Submit. You will now need to enter an 8-character confirmation code to complete your account creation.
I've gone through the website to download the launcher and get a Free Trial up and running to try out the game. I have created a SE account both via the launcher, and via the website and both ways have been asking me for a Registration Code.

If you haven't setup two-factor authentication for the one-time password on your account, you just leave that box blank. 11 Αυγ 2020 · You will need to create both a new Steam and new FFXIV (make sure to create an entirely new Square Enix account as well, not just FFXIV) account to play the free trial. For those with existing PC accounts:
You can download the free trial both on Square Enix’s official website, and via Steam. Square Enix’s Website : you will have to open a Square Enix account in order to register.
Deleted everything, made a new account on SE website, then downloaded the steam version again - didn't work the first time, so I closed it and launched again and I was able to log in and get the steam free trial license.
