You might have installed the full-game client instead of the trial client. The trial client is set to skip the step asking you for the registration code, since the trial doesn't need one. If you installed the game with ffxivsetup.exe then that's what's happened, the trial is installed with ffxivsetup_ft.exe.
28 Δεκ 2021 · I started playing FFXIV by downloading the free trial on lodestone/Square Enix so I guess I made my FFXIV account through Window Service version of the game. Now that I'm nearing the level cap and finishing ARR, I'm hooked on the game and would like to upgrade to the full version.

as long as you are going Free Trial SE edition, to Full game Steam then it should work, just redeem the key on your mogstation. depending on how they handle it you may have multiple keys, and will need to enter the one for the starter edition first before you can enter anything else. 3.
