Management of fibrosing mediastinitis. Specialists at Mayo Clinic have used off-label rituximab to treat nearly 30 patients with fibrosing mediastinitis successfully. Disease progression was almost universally halted and two-thirds of the patients improved symptomatically.
Fibrosing mediastinitis (FM), which is also known as mediastinal fibrosis or sclerosing mediastinitis, is an uncommon, benign and progressive condition characterized by an invasive proliferation of fibrous tissue within the mediastinum.

12 Μαΐ 2018 · Although rare, fibrosing mediastinitis is an insidious complication of pulmonary histoplasmosis that must be recognized quickly, along with rapid stabilization and carefully crafted treatment plan. Medical therapy with antifungals and corticosteroids is not recommended routinely.
Although the definitive treatment of FM is unclear, the treatment should be symptomatic in the setting of uncertain etiology with close follow up.
