Computed tomography (CT) scanning provides a comprehensive anatomic and functional evaluation of the pericardium because of its high spatial and contrast resolution, fast acquisition (5–10 heart beats), multiplanar reconstruction capabilities, and large field of view.
3 Νοε 2023 · The pericardium is the membrane that encloses the heart and the roots of the major heart vessels, consisting of an outer fibrous layer (fibrous pericardium) and an inner double serous membrane layer (serous pericardium).
Pericardial inflammation and thickening may be best visualised on cardiac MRI (CMR) (Figs. 1 and 2 respectively). Troponin levels should normal; if elevated, there is myocardial involvement and the diagnosis is one of myopericarditis (see below). Fig. 1.

The fibrous pericardium is the most superficial layer of the pericardium. It is made up of dense, and loose connective tissue which acts to protect the heart, anchoring it to the surrounding walls, and preventing it from overfilling with blood.
15 Απρ 2021 · Pericardial effusion, either due to cancer invasion or cancer treatment, is one of the most common incidental findings in cancer patients, which significantly worsens morbidity and mortality. If left untreated, pericardial effusion is known to cause complications such as pericardial tamponade.
