For conditions that may benefit from pulling the shoulders back, such as: - Clavicle fractures and dislocations - Postural problems - Selected soft tissue injuries.
However, the most common methods are the use of a figure-of-eight strap (Fig. 1a), an arm sling (Fig. 1b), or a combination of the two [4, 7–9]. Indications for surgery include open fractures, severe displacement caused by comminution, suspicion of imminent skin lesion production by a sharp clavicle fracture edge, or neurovascular injuries.

Fractures of the clavicle (collar bone) are common and this question comes up often. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. To the best of our knowledge, there is very little scientific evidence to support one over the other — or even to suggest immobilization over doing nothing is better.
