The 1764 coat of arms of the Montgomerys, Earls of Eglinton. During the Jacobite Uprisings the Clan Montgomery supported the British government. The clan chief and 9th Earl of Eglinton was on the Privy Council of King William and Queen Anne of the United Kingdom.
The emblazoned Coat of Arms depicts the full achievement of Philip (Herbert), Earl of Montgomery, KG, 1616, with argent, azure, and gules wreath, a Wyvern crest (a reptilian creature with wings--a European dragon), and dexter supporters of a Panther incensed and Earl's cornet (crown).
