The Rules of Hockey and FIH Tournament Regulations apply to all International Hockey. The FIH Executive Board has agreed that the same Rules and FIH Tournament Regulations which vary the Rules of Hockey also apply to the top domestic League level of National Association Hockey.
Field goals may only be scored from the 'shooting circle', a roughly semi-circular area in front of the opponents' goal. If an attacker hits the ball from outside the 'shooting circle' and it goes directly into the goal or is only touched by a defender on the way, it does not count as a score.
The FIH Rules Committee regularly reviews all the Rules of Hoc-key. It takes account of information and observations from a wide variety of sources including national hockey associations, players, coaches, offi cials, media and spectators together with match and competition reports, video analysis and Rules trials.
The International Hockey Federation, commonly known by the acronym FIH, is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor field hockey. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. FIH is responsible for field hockey's major international tournaments, notably the Hockey World Cup.
