The wool itself is excellent, and I use my plain vest as mid layer a big part of the winter, it's warm and tough and really comfortable - for me it has been a good purchase. The western vest costs a lot more, and the difference is styling and pocket layout, so whether it's worth the price difference is very much a matter of opinion.

For $495, you’re getting a long-lasting, well-made jacket that’ll be with you for life, if you care for it.
