Firearm: Free. Must be at least 10 years of age to obtain, regardless of residency. Hunters over 10 years and under 14 years must be accompanied by licensed adult (age 21+). Hunters over 10 years and under 14 years require permission from parent or legal guardian to obtain either license.

Mentors must be 21 years of age or older and must possess a valid New Jersey Hunting License for the hunting method (bow or firearm) being used. Apprentice hunters must adhere to hunting laws and regulations, and must purchase all hunting permits, stamps, or the HIP certification, as required.
In order to obtain an initial Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and permit to purchase a handgun the applicant shall review the approved course of instruction in the lawful and safe handling and storage of firearms.
If you are a resident of New Jersey and wish to obtain a traditional license to hunt with a firearm, the fee is $27.50. If you are not a resident, the fee is $135.50. A resident bow and arrow license costs $31.50 and an out-of-state permit is $135.50.
