We Christians too have a calendar – the Liturgical calendar, a sacred and holy calendar of seven seasons – Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. This calendar keeps time to remember God’s Salvation Story.
The liturgical year is divided into 8 seasons of approximately 7 weeks each but adjusted to fit the solar calendar. The arrangement of the Seasons in the Liturgical Year is based on seven central events on celebrations of the Salvation History. They are: Nativity of Christ; Epiphany of Christ; Resurrection of Christ; Pentecost; Transfiguration ...
The Scriptures take us through the Liturgical Year on a three year cycle. The Church designates readings to be used for each day on a three year cycle. We have Liturgical Years A, B and C. We look at Jesus and our own lives through the Gospel of Matthew (Cycle A), Mark (Cycle B) and Luke (Cycle C).

The liturgical calendar leads us through the seasons of the liturgical year. The first season of the liturgical year is Advent . During Advent we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth and await Christmas, the celebration of the coming of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
