When you move to Florida from another state, you'll need to get a FL title and vehicle registration, including FL license plates. To complete a car title transfer with the FL DHSMV, you'll need: A completed Application for Certificate of Title With/Without Registration (Form HSMV 82040).
Please follow the steps below to transfer a Florida title for vehicles, vessels, and mobile homes purchased in a private sale. The seller can request a paper title online, in person, or by mail. Note: If the sale was conducted at a dealership in Florida, car dealerships are required to apply for title and registration on the purchaser’s behalf.
Transfer of Florida Certificate of Title: 1. The “Transfer of Title by Seller” section on the Florida Certificate of Title must be completed in full, with printed name(s) and signature(s) for each transferor (seller) and each transferee (purchaser) for all non-exempt motor vehicles.
Transfer of Florida Titles To transfer a Florida Title, the seller must complete the Transfer of Title by Seller section of the current title, including the purchaser’s name, selling price, odometer reading and the signature and printed name of the seller at the time of sale.
Paper Title. All owners are encouraged to maintain their titles electronically, which stores the electronic title record in FLHSMV’s database until such a time as one might need a paper title for the purposes of selling a vehicle or transferring title to another state or country.
To transfer a Florida title, the seller must fill out the transfer information on the current title, including the purchaser’s name, selling price, and odometer reading at the time of sale. All transfers of ownership must be completed within 30 days of the sale date on the title.
