23 Μαΐ 2023 · Ankle sprains most commonly involve injury to the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and/or the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL). Ankle sprains vary depending on the mechanism of injury (high- versus low-energy injuries), position of the foot, and rotational force on the joint and stabilizing ligamentous structures.
30 Ιουλ 2009 · For intrinsic factors, a foot size with increased width, an increased ankle eversion to inversion strength, plantarflexion strength and ratio between dorsiflexion and plantarflexion strength, and limb dominance could increase the ankle sprain injury risk.
24 Ιαν 2024 · Ankle Sprains are very common twisting injuries to the ankle that are the most common reason for missed athletic participation. Diagnosis can be made clinically with swelling and ecchymosis of the ankle and pain with range of motion.
1 Φεβ 2024 · The most common mechanism of ankle injury is the inversion of the ankle, which stresses the lateral ligament complex. The ATFL, the weakest ligament in the complex, is affected in 70% of lateral ankle sprain cases. The mechanism primarily involves plantar flexion and inversion.
The ankle or talocrural joint is formed from the tibia and fibula of the lower leg and talus of the foot. Functionally, it acts as a hinge, allowing dorsiflexion (pulling the foot upwards towards the lower leg) and plantarflexion (pulling the foot downwards away from the lower leg).
23 Ιουλ 2020 · Abstract. Background: Ankle sprains are common among physically active individuals, especially among athletes. Majority of those who suffer ankle sprains have residual symptoms including pain, episodes of giving way, compromised proprioception and neuromuscular control, and re-injury leading to chronic ankle instability.
Abstract. With the high percentage (up to 75%) of initial lateral ankle sprains (LAS) leading to repetitive sprains and chronic symptoms, it is imperative to better understand how best to treat and rehabilitate LAS events.
