Ankle impingement is defined as pain in the ankle due to impingement in one of two areas: anterior (anterolateral and anteromedial) and posterior (posteromedial). Location of pain is referenced from the tibiotalar (talocrural) joint.
30 Οκτ 2023 · The main action of the ankle joint is to allow dorsiflexion and plantar flexion of the foot, as well as some degree of pronation and supination with subtalar and midtarsal joints. The joint also acts as a shock absorber as the heel strikes the ground during the first phases of gait.
The ankle joint is important during ambulation because it adapts to the surface on which one walks. The movements that occur at the ankle joint are plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, and eversion. The muscles of the leg divide into anterior, posterior, and lateral compartments. 8 Δεκ 2023 · The ankle joint is one of the most often injured joints in sports [1], accounting for 10–30% of sports injuries [2]. Ankle sprains can result in serious complications, such as a chronic feeling of ankle instability and recurrent sprains if they are not promptly and appropriately treated [3].
30 Οκτ 2023 · Dorsiflexion of the foot is a movement that occurs in the sagittal plane exclusively at the ankle joint. It is the upward motion of the foot so that its dorsal (superior) surface approaches the shin, reducing the angle between them, hence the '-flexion' part of the name.
23 Ιουλ 2020 · Results: Although there were no differences in the active ankle joint range of motion (p > 0.05) in comparison to the control group, athletes with chronic ankle sprain reported mild pain and statistically significant (p < 0.05) deficits in foot proprioception, static and dynamic balance.
26 Οκτ 2022 · Posterior ankle impingement syndrome (PAIS) is a condition that causes deep pain in the back of the ankle when the foot is pointed downward (plantar flexed). This problem typically arises when a piece of excess bone, a muscle, or a ligament pinches against another anatomical structure in the hindfoot.
