20 Ιουλ 2023 · Both movements happen at the ankle joint. Dorsiflexion means flexion of the dorsum (top) part of the foot by reducing the angle between it and the anterior surface of the leg. It happens when you lift the front part of your foot while keeping your heel on the ground.
Foot drop is inability to lift the forefoot due to the weakness of dorsiflexors of the foot. Ankle and foot dorsiflexors, namely the tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, and extensor hallucis longus, help clear the foot during the swing phase of walking and control plantar flexion of the foot on heel strike.

Knee flexion is the bending of the knee to bring the foot toward the posterior thigh, and extension is the straightening of the knee. Flexion and extension movements are seen at the hinge, condyloid, saddle, and ball-and-socket joints of the limbs (see Figure 1a-d).
Dorsiflexion and plantar flexion refer to extension or flexion of the foot at the ankle. These terms refer to flexion in direction of the "back" of the foot, which is the upper surface of the foot when standing, and flexion in direction of the sole of the foot.
