Use the abbreviated citation form of the Florida Statutes in the text of legal documents when the citation is intended to stand alone.
The statute symbol is called a section symbol, as it represents one or more sections of a legal statute. You can make both singular (§) and plural (§§) section symbols in Microsoft Word and even assign keyboard shortcuts to them.

Legal document symbols are neatly tucked under the ‘Insert’ tab within MS Word on both macOS and Windows. After opening MS Word, head to this tab and click on ‘Advanced Symbol’ if you’re working on a Mac or ‘Symbol,’ followed by ‘More symbols’ if you’re on Windows.

26 Φεβ 2020 · There are ways to get around learning this skill, such as copying and pasting the section symbol from elsewhere or writing out the word “section.” However, for legal writing purposes, it is probably best to know how to get the § in N.C. Gen. Stat. §7A-13 without resorting to a work-around.
