22 Ιαν 2024 · In today’s blog, we take a closer look at the two main types of ankle sprains – inversion and eversion sprains – and we discuss the typical care procedures for each. Inversion Vs. Eversion Ankle Sprain. When you sprain your ankle, it’s because the ankle rolled in one of two directions.
24 Ιαν 2024 · Ankle Sprains are very common twisting injuries to the ankle that are the most common reason for missed athletic participation. Diagnosis can be made clinically with swelling and ecchymosis of the ankle and pain with range of motion.
Causes. Ankle eversion and inversion are two common movements that can lead to injuries, particularly in athletes and active individuals. Understanding the causes of these conditions is crucial for prevention and effective treatment. Eversion refers to the outward rolling of the foot, while inversion involves the inward rolling.
30 Ιουλ 2009 · For intrinsic factors, a foot size with increased width, an increased ankle eversion to inversion strength, plantarflexion strength and ratio between dorsiflexion and plantarflexion strength, and limb dominance could increase the ankle sprain injury risk.
Around 90% of ankle sprains involve an inversion injury (the foot turns inward) to the anterior talofibular (ATFL) and calcaneofibular (CFL) ligaments — the lateral ligaments on the outside of the ankle. The less common medial ankle sprain is caused by an eversion injury (the foot turns out) to the deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle.
Ankle sprains occur when one twists and rolls their foot inwards and towards the body or outwards away from the body or inversion vs. eversion. When an ankle is sprained, the ligaments are stretched and causes deficits with overall balance and stability.
Ankle injuries, particularly sprains, are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries, often resulting from excessive inversion or eversion. Recognizing the differences between ankle inversion and eversion is crucial for rehabilitation, athletic training, and injury prevention.
