These are bones found anterior to the talus and calcaneus and include the navicular bone, the cuboid bone, in addition to the lateral, intermediate, and medial cuneiform bones. Let’s take a closer look at each of these bones and their bony features.
The talus bone consists of three main parts – a head, a neck and a body. I will now isolate the talus from the other bones to briefly show you these three main parts, however, I'll talk about these sections in more detail later on in this tutorial. In this image, you can see the head of the talus.

Characterized by pain, paresthesia, and loss of sensation over the medial foot and ankle, patients may also experience weakness and muscle atrophy in severe cases. Bony lesions on the talus, such as osteophytes or osteosarcoma, may cause the posterior tibial nerve to get compressed in the tarsal tunnel, leading to tarsal tunnel syndrome.
