7 Ιαν 2019 · Formocresol is a long–term clinically–successful medicament for use in the pulpotomy procedure, mostly due to its excellent clinical success and ease in use . Several studies have been done to investigate the risk of exposure to formocresol because it has mutagenic, toxic and carcinogenic risks in humans [ 3 – 5 ].
Formocresol pulpotomy is one of the most common procedure in cases of mechanical and carious exposure in primary teeth. In a standard protocol, total pulpal roof are to be removed to carry out the procedure.
The aim of the study was to clinically and radiographically evaluate the efficacy of formocresol, Allium sativum oil, and Aloe barbadensis gel as pulpotomy medicaments in primary molars. Materials and methods. Eighty-two primary molars indicated for pulpotomy were included in the study.
This paper provides a narrative review on the pulpotomy procedure in primary teeth over time, with reference to advances in technique, medication, restoration possibilities, challenges and controversies surrounding the subject, as well as future directions.
