Decision made to close the Franciscan Ceramics division and move all production to Wedgwood’s factories in England. 1984. All operations cease at the Franciscan Ceramics Division’s plant in Los Angeles. All patterns discontinued except for Desert Rose, Apple, and Fresh Fruit.
The Gladding, McBean Los Angeles Glendale plant begins production of Franciscan art ware and dinnerware in 1934. Sold as Franciscan Pottery, the trade name is changed to Franciscan Ware by 1937. Mary Grant is Head of the Dinnerware Design department.
In 1984, the Franciscan Ceramics division in Los Angeles closed and production moved to England to the Johnson Brothers division of Wedgwood. All lines were discontinued with the exception of the hand-painted patterns Apple, Desert Rose, and Fresh Fruit.
4 Μαρ 2017 · Some of the best selling dinnerware patterns included Apple, Coronado, Desert Rose and El Patio. In 1936, they changed their name from Franciscan Pottery to Franciscan Ware. In 1941, they introduced the Desert Rose pattern, which was the most popular dinnerware pattern ever in the United States.

In 1940, the Gladding, McBean & Co. introduced their first hand-painted embossed earthenware dinnerware line Franciscan Apple, and shortly thereafter in 1941, Desert Rose. Apple was adapted from the embossed pattern Zona, produced by the Weller Pottery Company of Ohio.
