The meeting of the American Equal Rights Association in New York’s Stein way Hall on 12-13 May 1869 heralded the collapse of the relatively unified movement for woman suffrage. Presided over by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the convention was plagued by dissension and a disregard for established pro cedure.
