1 Δεκ 2023 · Free Chlorine levels of 2 – 4 ppm are high enough to kill pathogens such as bacteria and algae and yet low enough for swimmer comfort. When the free chlorine level is higher than 5 ppm swimmers may start to get red eyes, itching skin and stiff hair after a swim.
18 Απρ 2024 · Free chlorine levels could be too high due to over-chlorination, or a lack of proper balancing elements like cyanuric acid. This can occur if you add more chlorine than necessary, or if your pool’s stabilizer levels are incorrect.
If you’re experiencing high levels of total chlorine in your pool, but the free available chlorine is low (under 3 ppm), you must increase the free chlorine levels. In many cases, this will mean shocking the pool with liquid chlorine or granular pool shock, calcium hypochlorite (cal-hypo).
16 Ιουλ 2023 · We’ll cover the differences between free chlorine, combined chlorine, and total chlorine, and what they mean for your pool. Quick answer: Free chlorine is unused chlorine that’s ready to sanitize. Combined chlorine is used up chlorine that has already been combined with contaminants in the water. Total chlorine is the sum of both.
27 Αυγ 2020 · When superchlorinating, chlorine is added to raise the measured free chlorine level to 10 to 20 ppm. Superchlorination is preferred after heavy swimming, a storm or the beginnings of algae. In these cases, superchlorination can help boost oxidation, increase free available chlorine and bring back good water quality.
25 Σεπ 2023 · Perform the SLAM process: Test the FC level and add enough chlorine to bring FC up to SLAM level 3-4 times per day. At the beginning of your SLAM, the chlorine is used quickly to kill algae. As the algae is killed off, you can reduce your testing and chlorine additions to 2-3 times per day.
29 Αυγ 2024 · If your total chlorine is higher than your free chlorine, contaminants are in the pool. By subtracting the free chlorine number from the total chlorine number, you can asses the combined chlorine and make adjustments accordingly. If the combined level is above 0.5 ppm, you should shock the hot tub.
