29 Απρ 2024 · The Fall of Singapore in 1942 is arguably the greatest military blunder in the history of the British Empire with over 130,000 Allied troops surrendering to a far smaller Japanese force; this brief siege in the middle of the Second World War is a fascinating nexus in the history of European colonialism and influence in Southeast Asia.
1 Αυγ 2015 · NAS has about 700 maps from the Second World War period (1939-1945), covering the tense years following the outbreak of war in Europe but prior to the Japanese invasion, the battles for Malaya and Singapore, and the Japanese Occupation.
In order to solve these needs, we decided to digitize a total of 31 maps ranging from 1846 till present that allows researchers to browse our historical map collection for comparison purposes. The digitized maps are now managed and served by NUS Library at http://libmaps.nus.edu.sg/.
