We always had a happy ending, and a stand-alone ending (the series could've ended right at season 1, 2 or 3 and it wouldn't feel "unfinished"). At the end of season 4, you expect the same pattern. Dexter kills Trinity, and the finale will end with him happily spending time with Rita at the Keys.

Well, we have been making a lot of headway and I've really been enjoying season 4. I don't know why I stopped in season 3. Either way, we watched the season 4 finale last night and it was absolutely crushing.
