13 Μαρ 2020 · Jump to Recipe. When I make this traditional Greek custard pie with syrup it’s a unique moment. Because this dessert conquers your heart, your palate, your soul and never ever let you down. A fine, delicate, light and outrageously creamy custard wrapped up by layers of thin, extra crunchy phyllo bathed in delicious, succulent syrup.
Key ingredients. Kataifi pastry This is a really popular ingredient in many Greek pastries and even in savoury dishes. It is basically phyllo dough which has been shredded into thin strips. Apple juice I use apple juice when I make the syrup for this dessert, to really maximize the apple flavour.. Apples Any apples will do, although apples which hold their shape better are best.
Ingredients. Pastry. 4 cups/ 500g all-purpose flour. A pinch of salt. ½ cup/ 50g butter melted kept at room temperature. 1 cup and 1 Tbsp/ 250g water lukewarm. 1 ¼ cups/ 300g butter melted to brush over the pastry. Cream filling. 2 cups/ 500ml full-fat milk. ¾ cup/ 150g sugar. 1 tsp vanilla extract. ¼ cup/ 50g cornstarch. 4 egg yolks.

Everyone who tried this spanakopita while I was recipe testing said it was the best they had ever eaten. So I can’t wait for you to try it!
