Almost every show I've worked with usine timecode to tracks is using either ableton or protools as a playback (controlled from stage or sidestage), and that sends timecode out to the various consoles for lighting, audio, and video cues.

It seems to be rather hard to find a freeware (or cheap) software that supports either SMPTE or MIDI Timecode (this would make it easy to sync to the playback software), lets me design my Lightshow virtually and then output the DMX data in sync.

I use MA dot2, you get one free universe that you can output with a $40 Enttec open dmx. I use Reaper to trigger MIDI timecode to dot2 which syncs the lights with the music. Then, it triggers Resolume with the appropriate video clips for my screens.
