It seems to be rather hard to find a freeware (or cheap) software that supports either SMPTE or MIDI Timecode (this would make it easy to sync to the playback software), lets me design my Lightshow virtually and then output the DMX data in sync.
Almost every show I've worked with usine timecode to tracks is using either ableton or protools as a playback (controlled from stage or sidestage), and that sends timecode out to the various consoles for lighting, audio, and video cues.
Here is a great list of available DMX software: https://dmxking.com/control-software. Some of it is paid and has lots of features, other is free and not well developed. In the states, I see GrandMA or Hog being used for concerts and other live busking things. ETC consoles for theatre shows.
All you'll really need is a computer that can run the free grandMA2 onPC software. In the course, I'll provide links to other (free) software you can use to bring timecode into onPC without any equipment, and I'll show you how to configure it.
