   The best media player on Windows is PotPlayer. I've tried them all - VLC, MPC-BE/HC, Kmplayer, libmpv based etc. Nothing comes close. Depends on the need. VLC, MPC-BE x64 are pretty good. A lot of people like MPV but I dislike it to a large degree.

   The perfect video player for me would be one that tracks episode progression, can display HDR, and has a wide support for video formats. All the video players I've seen are either laggy (Windows Media Player), doesn't support most of the features I want (5kplayer), or plain sucks (VLC).

   I basically use a combination of VLC, Films and TV and MPC-HC. VLC is the big gun which I use at last, to throw anything that doesnt work in the others. Strangely Films and TV app gives me the best brightness and graphic adjustments for the media it supports.
