Meeting the Act 48 requirement every five years with acceptable professional education courses or activities will maintain the educator's active status for any and all certificates held by the educator. If PIL/Act 45 hours are required, exceptions may apply. Please see the PIL/Act 45 FAQ.
Two amendments affect the continuing professional education requirements of Pennsylvania’s school professionals. The first allows for the carryover of Act 48 hours from one compliance period to another. The second extends every certificate holder’s compliance period by one year.
PDE provides FREE online courses for PA certified educators to earn Act 48 non-college credit/professional development hours now available through PDE's Standards Aligned Systems web portal.
Members can earn Act 48 hours (PSEA is an approved Act 48 provider by PDE) and Chapter 14 verification to submit for district consideration toward the fulfillment of annual hours for HQT. PEARL: PSEA’s hub for online learning programs.

There are currently over 50 free professional development courses available in the SAS PD Center. Pennsylvania educators are eligible to receive Act 48 credit upon successful course completion. A PPID number is required in order to receive Act 48 credit for any classes taken in the PD Center.
