Meeting the Act 48 requirement every five years with acceptable professional education courses or activities will maintain the educator's active status for any and all certificates held by the educator. If PIL/Act 45 hours are required, exceptions may apply. Please see the PIL/Act 45 FAQ.
Two amendments affect the continuing professional education requirements of Pennsylvania’s school professionals. The first allows for the carryover of Act 48 hours from one compliance period to another. The second extends every certificate holder’s compliance period by one year.
In partnership with the National Education Association (NEA), PSEA offers over 100 FREE micro-credentials to PSEA members for Act 48 hours. College Credit. There are currently over 50 free professional development courses available in the SAS PD Center. Pennsylvania educators are eligible to receive Act 48 credit upon successful course completion. A PPID number is required in order to receive Act 48 credit for any classes taken in the PD Center.
You must be certified as an administrator AND hold an administrator position in a PA school district to request PIL course application to your Act 48 hour allotment. Only the Lehigh COE Superintendent Letter of Eligibility coursework is approved for Act 45 continuing education.
