Clarence Gagnon is best known for his rural Quebec landscape paintings and the illustrations for Louis Hémon’s novel Maria Chapdelaine. Clarence Alphonse Gagnon, R.C.A., (8 November 1881 – 5 January 1942) was a French Canadian painter, draughtsman, engraver and illustrator, from the province of Quebec. He is well known for his landscape paintings of the Laurentians and the Charlevoix region of eastern Quebec.
