French aircraft during World War I, flying over German-held territory, 1915 France was one of the first states to start building aircraft. At the beginning of World War I, France had a total of 148 planes (8 from French Naval Aviation (aéronautique Navale) and 15 airships.
22 Αυγ 2016 · During the conflict French manufacturers turned out over 52,000 aircraft in 365 different types, annual production of airframes rising from 541 in 1914 to 24,652 in 1918, and output of engines from 860 in the last five months of 1914 to 3,502 in November 1918 alone.

17 Μαρ 2019 · Building on the design of the XI, Nieuport launched a new fighting plane in 1916 – the Nieuport XVII. It first entered service with the French on the Western Front in May that year. Nieuport 17 flown by René Dorme while with escadrille N.3 during the battle of the Somme in late 1916.
The bodies of 270 German soldiers have lain hidden since they were buried alive by a French bombardment.
