5 Ιαν 2020 · How to Make Zeppole – Zippoli Calabrese. Zeppole calabresi are divine savory fried donuts on high demand in our household! This zeppole recipe uses the traditional Calabrian method, taught to us by Nonna Maria.
Fry the zeppole, turning on all sides, until light and golden brown all over, about 5 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels, and repeat with the remaining dough. To serve, when cold cut the zeppole in half with a serrated knife and with a pastry bag, pipe the filling onto the bottom half.
Instructions. Heat oil in a 7–8 quart pot over medium-high to 375°. Stretch and flatten dough pieces. Drop dough into oil 1 piece at a time; fry in batches of 4 or 5 until puffed and golden brown, ⏰ 1 – 2 minutes per side. Drain fried dough on a paper-towel-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Repeat frying with remaining dough.
