Key learning points. Most plants produce seeds which grow into new plants. Different types of plants can grow from different types of seeds, including trees, fruit and vegetables. Different types of seeds can be compared and grouped using observation skills.
In this lesson, students will learn about and explore the different stages of the life cycle of a flowering plant. They will observe flowering plants at different stages of their life cycles and communicate their observations through discussions and informal representations.
Explain the importance of wildflowers within a habitat. Observe the growth of wildflowers that they have planted. Identify the different parts (seeds, roots, stem, leaves, flowers, petals) of flowering plants. Describe changes in plants associated with the seasons.

Students will learn the name of the different parts of a seed (seed coat, embryo, + endosperm) and understand the role of the seed coat. They’ll even learn that some seeds are dormant. Once the students have learned about the different parts of the seed, let them experiment with actual seeds.
