It's very important to keep radiation exposure to the people around you as limited as possible. In most cases for systemic radiation treatment, the safety precautions must be followed only the first few days after treatment. Here are examples of things you might be told to do if you're getting systemic radiation treatment:
Get your frozen and refrigerated foods just before you check out at the grocery store, especially during the summer months. Refrigerate groceries right away. Never leave food in a hot car.
Avoid keeping food in the danger zone where bacteria grows the best between 40ºF and 140ºF. Check that your refrigerator is at 40 ºF or below. Place fresh or left over food in the refrigerator within 2 hours of purchase or eating. Refrigerate or freeze food immediately after purchase.
