9 Οκτ 2024 · Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is a type of sex hormone that works alongside luteinizing hormone (LH) to regulate key reproductive processes in both women and men. In women, FSH helps to stimulate the development of ovarian follicles, which eventually go on to release an egg during ovulation.
LH and FSH promote ovulation and stimulate secretion of the sex hormones estradiol (an estrogen) and progesterone from the ovaries. Estrogen and progesterone circulate in the bloodstream almost entirely bound to plasma proteins.
