Here we review the properties and functions of DNA polymerases focusing on yeast and mammalian cells but paying special attention to the plant enzymes and the special circumstances of replication and repair in plant cells. Keywords: DNA Polymerase, DNA repair, DNA replication, TLS, translesion synthesis, fidelity.
7 Νοε 2023 · The primary function of the DNA polymerase is to synthesize new DNA strands through replication. It helps transfer genetic information from the parent to the offspring. They work in pairs, in tandem, for the two strands.
From amino acid sequence comparisons (1) as well as crystal structure analyses (2), the DNA polymerases can be divided into at least five different families, and representative crystal structures are known for enzymes in four of these families.
The main function of DNA polymerase is to synthesize DNA from deoxyribonucleotides, the building blocks of DNA. The DNA copies are created by the pairing of nucleotides to bases present on each strand of the original DNA molecule.
The Klenow enzyme, a proteolytic fragment of Escherichia coli DNA polymerase I. was originally utilized in Sanger’s dideoxy chain-terminating DNA sequencing chemistry (Sanger et al., 1977).
DNA polymerases carry out crucial functions in many DNA metabolic processes. Polymerases catalyse the addition, using a template, of complementary nucleotides to the 3′ end of DNA primer...
1 Ιαν 2013 · DNA polymerase and DNA ligase are ubiquitous enzymes that synthesize complementary DNA strands according to the template DNA and ligate breaks in the backbone structure of DNA, respectively, in living organisms.
