Set in an alternate timeline, the film follows the journey of Pokémon Trainer Ash Ketchum, his partner Pikachu, and his new friends, Verity and Sorrel, as they seek to meet the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh at the summit of Mount Tensei.
As of 2020, there have been 23 animated films and 1 live action film. The first 19 animated films are based on the anime television series of the same name, with the original film being remade into the 22nd. The 20th, 21st and 23rd animated films are set in an alternate continuity to the anime.
