We'll begin by describing the standard construction of domes of various complexity beginning with an icosa-hedron. It is easy to subdivide an equilateral triangle into 4, 9, 16, or any perfect square number of sub-triangles, as is illustrated in Figure 3.
All domes start from one of the 5 platonic solids, in short equalateral 3D shapes like a cube or a dodecahedron. I've drawn a few quick examples. Most common form you will have seen is a dome based from an icosahedron. (a twenty sided shaped comprised of triangles) and there is a reason for this being the most common, I will get to later.
A "2V" dome has two types of triangles: AAA and ABB, where A and B represent different lengths. To cut these out of cardboard, you will need to create templates out of paper. If you want to make your own templates, here is how I recommend doing it:

7 Ιουν 2024 · Interconnected Triangular Structure: Geodesic domes are characterized by interlinked triangles, which distribute the structural load evenly and provide strength and stability to the dome. The triangular elements create a self-supporting structure without internal columns or supports.
With a smart dome plan, there’s no limit as to how high those triangles will go. Keep reading to find out more about how domes are built and how Fuller’s geodesic creations took on gigantic proportions -- and then went up in flames.
