This study is an initial exploration of the personality structure of GS patients and the findings should be interpreted with caution, as further prospective studies are needed to identify the relationship between Gilbert disease and personality characteristics.
This analysis suggests that smoking may be related to personality, in the sense that people high on extra-version or neuroticism are more likely to smoke than people low on either or both these personality traits (Eysenck, 1980). As Gilbert (1995) has shown, both propositions have found considerable support in a number of empirical studies.
