2 Φεβ 2023 · Global winds are winds that develop in belts distributed all around the world. Like local winds, the leading cause of global winds is unequal heating of the atmosphere, causing a difference in air pressure.
Global Wind Explained. The illustration below portrays the global wind belts, three in each hemisphere. Note that the U.S. lies primarily in the Westerly Wind Belt with prevailing winds from the west. Each of these wind belts represents a "cell" that circulates air through the atmosphere from the surface to high altitudes and back again.
Hadley cell, model of the Earth’s atmospheric circulation that was proposed by George Hadley (1735). It consists of a single wind system in each hemisphere, with westward and equatorward flow near the surface and eastward and poleward flow at higher altitudes. The tropical regions receive more heat.
