Students may request a waiver of the college requirement in non-western culture if they have attended an institution at the secondary level (e.g. high school)l in a non-western country for four or more years. Students must provide official documentation of attendance to receive the waiver.
Select 3 credits of an approved course in the study of a non-Western culture (additional to the Mason Core requirement in global contexts). A course used to fulfill the Mason Core global contexts requirement may not be simultaneously used to satisfy this college-level requirement.
Non-Western Culture Requirement for the BA and BFA. Students pursuing a BA or BFA degree within our college must take one course (3 credits) to fulfill the CHSS Non-Western Culture requirement. The course used to fulfill this requirement must be different from the course used to fulfill the Mason Core Global Understanding requirement.

Students pursuing a BA in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences must complete three credits in a non-western culture from a list of approved courses. This requirement is in addition to the university's Mason Core requirement of three credits in global understanding.
