Abuse survivors may elect an expedited one-time cash payment of $3,500 if the survivor does not wish to have his claim fully evaluated by the Settlement Trust.
The Scouting Settlement Trust (“Trust”) was established on April 19, 2023 from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy of the Boy Scouts of America (“BSA”) to fairly, consistently, and efficiently evaluate survivors’ sexual abuse Claims.
The Boy Scouts of America may set a timeline for when they will start distributing settlement payments to victims of sexual abuse. Still, no date has been finalized BSA, but as per the recent development, one can expect to receive the settlement by the end of 2024 now.
In order to decide whether to exercise their right to pursue more compensation, most survivors want to know how much they are estimated to receive under the BSA's proposed bankruptcy plan if they choose not to do more work (or to have their lawyers do more work).
This calculator provides an estimate of a potential recovery for an abuse survivor under the BSA’s Plan of Reorganization, subject to the amount of available funds for distribution by the proposed Settlement Trust. Funds could be available for distribution to abuse survivors as soon as early- to mid- 2022.
