Someone will probably come and tell you otherwise, and if they do, listen to them. But in my experience, the page you downloaded from will usually tell you if their crack works with multiplayer. And if it does, it’s usually only multiplayer with other cracked copies of the game.
if it mentions multiplayer on the website then you can probably play multiplayer. if not then no. if your game supports it, you may be able to apply a steamworks fix to get multiplayer working through steam.

only place where I could find that game was on pirate-sites Abandonware in-of itself is piracy unfortunately. Sometimes they're your only option. But from what I've heard SteamUnlocked is a reasonably safe site.
