A few days ago the search box on my taskbar disappeared and was replaced with a magnifying glass icon. I am unable to re-enable it. When I right click the taskbar and hover over the "search", the "show search box" suboption is no longer visible.

You need to revert it back to a google search engine. Follow this guide and the bar will reappear - https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/464?hl=en#zippy=%2Cgoogle-chrome. The searched engine used is Yahoo. Change it back to Google and the big search bar will come back again.
3 Σεπ 2017 · Set the display scaling to 125% and then back to 100% to fix missing app icons in the search. Do this by going to Settings > System > Screen > Scaling and set it to 125% and then 100% again. Share
